She is home!

Mom made it home. She is tired and needs to rest. Thanks to everyone for checking in on her and for your support. Please keep her in your prayers so she can get back to being herself.

Tuesday - Noon

Mom continues to improve and the doctors are saying that tomorrow she may be coming home. They decided to have her just rest and take the stress test later as an out patient. Little do they know that mom, once she is gone, will probably avoid the doctor. I hope she doesn't.

She has a jigsaw puzzle to work on and maybe do some Sudoku and rest.

Thanks for everyone checking on her.

Monday 3 PM

Wow. What a difference a few days makes. Mom got up and ate... and her lungs were clear... so they have moved her to a 'normal' room which is now 215. Thanks to all of your prayers for her. I am sure it has done wonders for her.

We are happy mom is doing so much better. She just left to take a physical therapy session and after a stress test, they will decide how long to keep her.

Sunday 1 PM - The Mom Awakes

A good leap forward. When I showed up today I was surprised to find Scott in mom's room, and even more surprised to find mom sitting up in her chair next to her bed! Her tube was out and she was breathing on her own. She looked 100% better than we had seen her in the last few days.

Mom wondered why I hadn't taken any pictures of her with her tube in. So I tried taking just a picture of the equipment and the nurse why on me like stink on poop. She said no pictures are allowed in the ICU... well.. I guess some lawyer must have told her to say that. Since I had already taken a few with my cell phone the other day I guess I had the last laugh. Once again proof it is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Keep it going mom! You are looking good.

Sat Noon April 18

Mom is progressing. It is a very slow progression but she is progressing. The staff turned off the ventilator for about an hour today to see how she would handle things and did pretty well. They decided to turn it back on and let her rest some more and try again later today and again tomorrow. She is still sedated between attempts but was alert even more than yesterday and was able again to signal with her nods a yes or no and even drew the word hot in Mark's hand. She remembered that we had visited her yesterday so that is a good sign also.

Progress is progress. Slow as it is it is a good thing.

Sat Morn

Last night was encouraging in that mom slept well and her numbers looked good. She didn't seem to gag on her tubes when stirred. I am glad she is just not getting worse as this was the first day where that was the case since getting to the hospital. They still have not found any bacteria that could be causing the infection accompanying her pneumonia and that is baffling. Just before we left last night, we saw her perk up and even open both eyes and seemed to be aware of us. She signaled with her hand that she wanted something and was able to answer yes and no to questions by moving her head. She told us she didn't hurt but wanted to be turned. She could tell the nurse when adjusting her bed that it was high enough. She could tell us that she wanted some moisture on her lips. That was so good to see. I hope she continues as the doctors will be updating us this morning around 9:30.

Thanks to everyone having her in your prayers... and for the visits and flowers. She still cannot have visitors yet but hopefully the will be able to wean her from her ICU prison in the next day or so.

Friday 3:30

The ICU closed at 3:30 for visits so I will update you with how she was when I last saw her. She is stable in that her ventilation is keeping her breathing and her fluids have been starting to lower. This will help the pneumonia but lack of fluids hurt her heart so they are carefully balancing how this is to be done. She has to get a few numbers in line before they will remove the ventilator but the main number is heading in the right direction at the moment. She will stir when moved or when talked to but it does upset her since she tries to wake up and talk but the tube prevents that and she struggles so we are finding it best to just talk softly and hold her hand when we are there. She opens her right eye once in a while to see who is there but don't know if she can focus very well yet.

We are going back up and I will update you with more info this evening.
